A Minimum Viable Post
I am away with a few friends on a short trip this weekend.
And I didn’t prepare this week’s Substack post in advance.
During the trip, I was literally telling a friend about how I had to write a post (this one) for Sunday. We quickly chatted about how it could literally be an MVP, and so here we are!
In the tech sector, there is a well-known concept of an MVP, a minimum viable product. An MVP is something that the builder feels the product is good enough for people to see and buy.
Good news! You can apply this “Minimum Viable X” framework to lots of other things like a minimum viable podcast, a minimum viable gathering that Taylor Harrington has mentioned before, a minimum viable website
and a Minimum Viable Post like this one haha!
Here is how I think about Minimum Viable Post is:
Minimum: it is enough in length and substance. How you define “enough” is a personal thing.
Viable: it is good enough in quality for what you are trying to accomplish.
Post: It’s not an idea anymore, you shipped it. It is now out in the world for people to engage with!
Instead of always raising the bar and spending more time on things, it would be nice to have more Minimum Viable versions of things, right?
🎧 Podcast Episode
This week’s podcast episode is called Lessons From Builders. It was recorded with a bunch of friends about things we all have been learning while building companies, projects, communities, etc.
Two main ideas were:
the benefit of literally telling people what you are up to
the importance of having an abundance mindset when having conversations with potential clients because the other person already thinks it is worth their time to talk to you
Speaking of building, Elle Wilson contributed to this podcast episode and since then launched this form for a matchmaking festival in Ireland!
🎉 NYC Gatherings
You can see an updated list of NYC Gatherings here.
That’s all I got… this is literally an MVP haha.
To your next MVP,
-David Nebinski who hosted a fun A Chief of Staff Mixer last week
PS: I would love to see your latest Minimum Viable X. Reply back and share it with me!
