Forcing myself to grow
I used to suck at advocating for myself.
Shy. Nervous. Afraid to put myself out there.
I am an enneagram 2 and naturally I want to be supportive of other people.
One unexpected benefit of working independently since September is…
being forced to advocate for myself more.
I have to pitch myself and my work much more!
If I don’t do this well, I:
won’t be able to afford to live my current life
will feel over-worked and likely burn out
may have dissatisfied clients, leading to churn and negative word of mouth marketing
Basically, I now have a professional constraint that empowers me to advocate for myself.
And get better at it too!
By having this in one main area of my life, it is encouraging me to advocate for myself more personally too.
Everything is connected.
Instead of looking for a job, I like how this dynamic and constraint is forcing me to grow.
Pick your constraints, pick your future!
🎧 New Podcast Episode
Speaking of advocating for yourself, this topic came up in my podcast episode with Justin Moore this week.
He mentioned that if you don’t advocate for yourself financially, your creative work won’t reach its potential.
After creating an LLC recently, I see my work differently. I take it more seriously. I am trying to build things that compound and have win-win-win partnerships.
In this episode, you will also learn:
how partnering and negotiating with companies and brands is a mindset thing
the importance of creating custom proposals with multiple packages
why multiple formats (events, content channels, etc) is helpful when working with brands
You also learn about Justin’s Sponsor Games anti-conference on 3/15 - 3/18. In the episode, he shared a special discount code for listeners!
You can listen to the episode here!
PS: you may remember that I wrote about Justin’s book Sponsor Magnet recently. Learn more here. It was so cool to talk to him about it more!
