In 2018, it felt like my career did not have a traditional narrative or a ladder to climb like it had before.
In 2022, I was experiencing IRL social dislocation caused by the pandemic.
In early 2024, I felt somewhat isolated as a full-time, remote community builder.
Looking back, I eventually did three similar things that improved my life.
I had a Minimum Viable Breakthrough each time, which led to new opportunities, relationships, and increased confidence.
Let me explain Minimum Viable Breakthroughs or an “MVB” and how they can help you level-up.
What is a Minimum Viable Breakthrough?
Minimum = it’s only minimum to you. It’s your definition too. It could be big to other people. Or small to other people. It’s lean and efficient with a budget that is smaller than it could be. While collaboration is possible, your role is critical. It’s all about being just enough in size and scope to execute.
Viable = a plan that *could* work. You need a clear vision and path forward.
Breakthrough = a specific dynamic at play or a defining shift in what is possible after your MVB. This is the most important of all three. The project needs to have enough juice or risk to it that it could lead to a breakthrough. Through it, you learn, develop increased confidence, and transform.
(This video is a quick overview on what an MVB is and how you might think about it!)
You can pursue an MVB on your own or where you work. Ready for your next MVB? Let me know what you end up doing too!

the importance of hosting quality events when building community
how more work upfront when hosting an event likely leads to bigger impact at an event and beyond
why community builders need to adapt and evolve to the current market and interests of people. what worked years ago might not work now.
the benefits of vulnerability and how you could be more vulnerable with your friends
To your MVB,
PS: if you are wondering what my MVBs were, they were: In 2018, I started my podcast. In 2022, I hosted the first Podcast Mixers. In early 2024, I hosted my first C3 Community Builders and Creators Mini-Conference. Hope this helps!
