What is your next experiment?
In March 2020, I decided to host an event to celebrate the 100th episode of my podcast.
I only invited people that had been on the show before. I wanted to thank them and hopefully have them further connect with each other.
That event was so special to me, and it sparked something inside of me.
Since March 2020, I have tried to run more monthly experiments.
And I am doing one right now too.
Experiments like this keep me on my toes and make my life more dynamic.
The experiments have generally been around a few core themes and types of activities:
one-time events like the mentioned March 2020 event. A milestone can be helpful as a catalyst to host and also a narrative for people to join!
connection-sparking: I have run some experiments around sparking introductions for other people, mostly around my podcast.
1-1 containers: I love monthly containers with a friend usually with a theme to level-up together. My friend, Devin, told me about a “dream bigger” theme and I have used it before. Thanks Devin!
Leveling-up my work: I have used a monthly sprint and deadline to launch a new podcasting course, move my newsletter over to Substack, etc
Small group containers: These tend to work really well when there is a shared activity involved too. I did one with podcasters where we gave feedback to each other on our episodes. It was so helpful!
In general, my experiments seem to build-off each other over the years. Also, a small tweak here or there can make a previously on-hold idea, click again! It’s amazing!
If you push yourself with a new experiment monthly, the compounding growth of your work, relationships, and skills is profound!

New Podcast Episodes
As a follow-up to the most recent Substack post on hosting events, I published an episode including 7 tips for hosting great events and more!
#379 - Following Your Inner Compass with Lawrence Yeo
It was awesome chatting with Lawrence Yeo, the Creator of More To That, again on my podcast about his new book called The Inner Compass!
Here are three quotes from the episode that I really like:
"When you have intentionality and then you combine that with a particular art form, then that brings out the most of your capabilities.”
"Uncertainty is an asset rather than a liability. If you truly knew how things were going to end up, then that pursuit is not really worthwhile anymore."
"Curiosity is just another form of gratitude. It's a form of gratitude for the fact that you don't know everything."
To your next experiment,
PS: my friend and prior podcast guest, Tawny Lara, is offering discounted writing-focused coaching services to help with her cat if that sounds up your alley!
PPS: feel free to reply back and say hi!
