Anything above zero compounds
The cold email you send
The poem you write
The event you host
The event you cohost
The small tweak you make to an existing event format
Your LinkedIn post
Your Substack post
Meeting someone new
The podcast episode you publish
The YouTube video you make
The small project you work on
The small project you get paid for
This week, I published a podcast episode about my reflections on working independently for the last 6 months.
While I have been working independently for the last six months, I have building my portfolio, skills, and relationships for years.
In 2018, I started the Portfolio Career podcast
In 2020, I started building community with some people who had been guests on the show
In 2022, I hosted my first Podcast Mixer event with a few friends
In 2023, I hosted Podcast Mixers with Seth Godin and Mari Andrew
In 2024, I hosted four mini-conferences for community builders and creators called C3
In 2025, I cohosted a mini-conference and experimented with two other mini-conference versions
In September 2025, I left my job for a new, unknown chapter.
And today, I am feeling more confident than I did in September.
One reason is because I am noticing how projects and conversations are compounding just in this six month time period.
I am excited to see what will emerge over the coming months and years….
