One year ago today, I became a different person.
I became a more confident, more empowered version of myself.
I got sucked into a new vortex….
On March 30 2024, I hosted my first C3 mini-conference for community builders and creators.
This 6 hour event on a Saturday was the biggest gathering risk I have personally taken.
I was freaking nervous about it. Having an event flop in front of my friends and peers is a huge fear of mine. You too?
But C3 changed me!
The energy at the event was palpable. And quickly after, I could feel that this event was different…
The group chat was popping. Then, there were social media posts, a newsletter was written about it, people were referencing C3 at events, etc.
I was feeling something.

I was feeling the pull of a new vortex.
What initially started as a one-time event idea… led to three more C3 mini-conferences in 2024!
C3 became a guiding force and compass for me in 2024. It was so special. I wonder what my next vortex event will be…
What we might be able to learn from this:
we never know what exactly is going to be our next vortex event
a vortex event can also be a negative thing too. Losing my Dad right after college was a negative vortex event. I became a new person after that tragedy though too.
the importance of allowing life to unfold and emerge. If I committed to 4 mini conferences upfront, it would’ve felt differently. This all felt natural, dynamic, and exciting.
a vortex can definitely happen as an event attendee too. In 2018, I went to a conference in Norway, and I got some cool funky pants. And then I became a new person after that!
When was your last vortex event?
Or better yet… what could be your next one?
PS: special shout-out to Ben Bradbury the Cofounder of Reading Rhythms for helping me with the C3 naming and for riffing on this post and about “vortex events”

🎧 Podcast Episode
This week’s podcast episode is with Wen-Jay Ying, the Founder of Local Roots. After 14 years, she decided to start a new chapter with her business. I am inspired by her commitment to her business and for following her gut into a new chapter. I would love to hear what you took away from this episode!
To your next vortex event,
David Nebinski who wants to know what you are to up now
PS: this newsletter is brought to you by Rise. In their words, Rise is a modern job search platform that makes finding a job... gasp... joyful. We’re the rebels, misfits, and underdogs rewriting the rules on how to land jobs you love (yes, even remote jobs). Come join us today!
Love the vortex event language, David. Last one for me also happened last year -- quite close to yours -- an unexpected 10-day period between March 17 - 27 that changed my week, my month, my year, and... my life. The big question that surfaced for me, and the folks I spent this time with, 'What does it mean to live into interdependence?'
You’re becoming more and more David!!! Cheers to experimenting!
