10 Ideas That Have Shaped Me
What has shaped you? Reply back and let me know!
I am a fan of lists. And I hope you are too! Here is a list of 10 ideas that have shaped who I am today:
Starting a podcast is a low-cost way to change your life. Proof of work and social proof can help you a lot with your show too.
Hosting events is one of the best things you can do for your social life.
Hosting repeatable events is underrated.
Loss can serve as a wake-up call. Losing my Dad was a powerful wake-up call.
Finding a forcing function to create or publish work is incredibly powerful. It’s a big reason how I publish the podcast weekly and this newsletter every two weeks (thanks again for being here 😊)
The best projects and roles likely won’t be posted online. You have to seek them out, create them, and/or attract them.
Doing what you said you are going to do is surprisingly rare. If you have integrity and execute accordingly, you will stand out.
Living with friends is underrated. Since 2017, I have lived with friends. It’s been a game-changer.
Do things that you can do repeatedly. It’s OK if they are easy to do. Getting a “win” builds confidence and momentum. This applies to many areas of live.
Sending cold emails can be a game-changer. Pretty much everyone checks their personal email. If you send a thoughtful message, you will likely get a response. One that could change your life!

🎧 Episode 283: Developing Emotional Fitness with Dr. Emily Anhalt
A few favorite quotes from this episode:
“We have to surround ourselves with people who love us, while we learn to love ourselves. We have to surround ourselves with people who see us and who can give us feedback and who can witness us and help us understand ourselves.”
“the world is spoken in the language of relationships. And psychology is the study of relationships.”
“start with the relationship you have with yourself, and you will very quickly understand the relationship you have with other people in a much more profound way.”
🎧 Episode 282: Community and Relationship Building with Samanee Mahbub
Samanee has thankfully become a fast friend in NYC this year. I am inspired by how she moves through the world (literally). We first met at a Storytell event that she cohosts. It was magic…. and speaks to the power and possibility of IRL events!
We talked about community building, how traveling and feeling isolated initially when doing so has been a catalyst for her hosting events, mentorship, prioritizing relationships, and so much more! Here are two of my favorite quotes:
“I think the more self-aware I am, the better I can communicate myself to other people.”
“And most people focus on the gap between where they are and the dream, the reality that they actually want but they forget about the gain — which is where they started, to where they are now.”
I shared more about Samanee on Instagram as well! Are you there? Say hi!
That’s it for now! ~ David Nebinski
